The Production Team
MARTIN SIMPSON [ Writer | Director | Producer ]
As crew doctor on The Blue Lagoon, Martin Simpson was bitten by the movie bug. Since then, cinema has slowly taken over his life. Recently he left his medical practice, committed to producing, writing, and directing.
He has script-edited the feature film Visitors, made a number of award-winning short dramas, and produced the documentary series “Modern Faces of Aboriginal Australia” for French television. His AFC-funded screenplay about the disappearance of Prime Minister Harold Holt, Harry & Me, is under development by a major Australian producer.
TONY CHU [ Producer | Production Manager | Medical Advisor ]
Tony considers himself an actor—producer—director. As an actor, his credits include roles in The Matrix Reloaded, Flower Drum Song, and TV cop series “White Collar Blue” (in which he was also Medical Advisor).
He has produced a number of short films, notably the award-winning drama The McGuffin of Love (dir. Martin Simpson) and the martial arts action short Eastworld (which he also wrote and co-directed).
Pro-active by nature, Tony founded and convenes NAFA, a networking group well known for its monthly forums and collaborative film projects. He is also the Festival Director of the NAFA FEST short film festival, held twice yearly as Show-Fest and Action-Fest.
VINCENT MONTON ACS [ Cinematographer ]
Vincent has worked in the film industry for over thirty years in Australia and overseas as a cinematographer, director, and writer. He has won the Kodak AFI Award for Best Cinematography (and been a nominee on five other occasions) and has also won a Penguin Best Cinematography Award and a Sammy Award for Cinematography in television.
His extensive Cinematography credits on over 35 feature films include some of Australia’s best known and most successful productions collaborating with outstanding Australian directors including John Duigan, Richard Franklin, George Miller, Simon Wincer, Bruce Beresford, and Phillip Noyce.
IRENE WALLS [ Creative Coordinator | Documentary Maker ]
Video documentary maker, sculptor, make-up artist, builder’s labourer, and musician, Irene Walls’s artistic journey is a long and varied one. Amsterdam-born Walls trained as a make-up artist and hair stylist at the BBC and went on to principal make-up and hair stylist roles on Hollywood productions such as The Blue Lagoon with Brooke Shields and the seminal Australian film Newsfront (dir. Phillip Noyce, DOP Vincent Monton). She is responsible for make-up and hair on many Vogue and Mode magazine covers.
On Gene-X, Irene has two hats: producing and directing the featurette on the making of the film, as well as filling the role of Creative Coordinator.
